AzCA E-News - REGISTER NOW - Southern Chapter Conference 4 Weeks from Today

AzCA is Excited to Welcome Dr. Donald Meichenbaum to the Southern Chapter Conference
AzCA will welcome Dr. Donald Meichenbaum at the Southern Chapter Conference on September 28 & 29 at the University of Arizona in Tucson.  Dr. Meichenbaum is research director of the Melissa Institute for Violence Prevention in Miami, FL. He is one of the founders of cognitive behavior therapy and in a survey of clinicians he was voted "one of the ten most influential psychotherapists of the 20th century."

Dr. Meichenbaum will present his session “Why Are Some Psychotherapists More Effective Than Others?: Core Tasks of Psychotherapy.” Research on psychotherapeutic treatment outcomes indicate that some therapists consistently achieve more long-lasting treatment outcomes and fewer dropouts than others. This presentation begins with a critical consideration of the "state of the art" of psychotherapy and a discussion of what distinguishes the "expert" psychotherapists from others.  It enumerates the core tasks of psychotherapy and the nature of the feedback-informed deliberate practice that is required to improve psychotherapeutic outcomes. A Case Conceptualization Model of risk and protective factors is presented that informs both assessment and treatment decision-making.  A Constructive Narrative strengths-based treatment approach is highlighted. How to spot "HYPE" in the field of psychotherapy will also be presented.

The Southern Chapter Conference is full of exceptional sessions and speakers including:

Dr. Dean Aslina - Keynote Presenter - The Unspoken Traumas of Migrants and Refugees: Cultural and Clinical Implications for Mental Health Professionals

Dr. Patricia Kerstner - Ethics in Supervision

Dr. Linda Shaw - Ethical Management of Values Conflicts

Dr. Steven Farmer - Improving Your LGBT Affirming Practice

This is going to be an exciting event.  You don’t want to miss it!  Earn up to 11.5 CE hours for your attendance during both days of the conference.
